Conjunctivitis is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent membrane that covers the white part of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelids. It can be caused by viruses, bacteria, allergies, or irritants such as smoke or chlorine. Common symptoms include redness, irritation, watering, and sometimes a sticky discharge that can cause the eyelids to stick together, especially in the morning. Although conjunctivitis is usually mild and often clears up on its own, it can be contagious in some cases. Good hygiene such as washing hands regularly and avoiding sharing towels or pillows can help prevent it from spreading. If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s best to seek advice from us.
